About This Course

This course offers an introduction and basic overview of Police work. The various areas, roles and divisions in the police force, and employment possibilities. (Completion of this course does not qualify students for entry into the Police Force).

TOPICS COVERED

  • Recruiting - The process of becoming a recruit—personal requirements etc.
  • Overview of the Structure of the Industry - Structure of the Police Force and related areas.
  • Police Roles in the Community - What the Police do in and for the community.
  • Consequences of Crime - This covers the criminal sanctions in regards to crime, like conviction, community service, imprisonment.
  • Physical Fitness - An overview of the physical requirements for the Police force, which includes travelling to Burnham and completing the Army Confidence Course or another outdoor activity (weather permitting).
