AIM: Being prefect is a huge privilege that comes with great responsibility. Many find it a bit uneasy to be the leader of their peers.  
 - How do they handle difficult situations? What are their limits?
 - How do they assert their authority in a way that is respected?
 - What the key characteristics of a leader that they must be aware of?
 - What is expected of them by both their school and peers?

This two-day course will involve senior school staff as well as experienced people in senior leader roles.

What is covered:
 -  What is Leadership -> Influence
 -  Circles of Influence (Who are you influencing / Who is influencing you)
 -  Myths of Leadership -> Understanding of personal responsibility in leadership
 -  Purpose of Leadership -> Vision for the Prefect/Leadership Group
 -  Smart Goals -> Setting some goals for the year
 -  Priorities -> Key success factors
 -  Plans -> A plan to achieve one goal in the first term

Encouraging and equipping future leaders with the fundamental skills required in personal leadership and in leading teams. Available from Year 10 through to Year 13.

Students will have the opportunity to develop in the areas of:

- Leadership development
- Values clarification
- Team building
- Team roles
- Myers Briggs personality profiling

This is a practical day of fun activities.

AIM: We all want to own and run our own successful business. You have a great idea but how do you turn it into a viable venture?

You will learn:
HOW TO SET UP A BUSINESS
 - Is your idea really a starter? How do you work it out?
 - Do you set up a limited liability company, partnership or just start trading?
 - Cash is king! How do you set up a cash flow forecast before you start?
 - How do you finance your venture?
 - Do you need an accountant and lawyer?

TAKING YOUR IDEA TO THE MARKET
 - How do you find your target market?
 - How do you make the business stand out in the very crowded marketplace by creating a great brand?
 - Marketing strategies. This is a very fast changing challenge. What worked 5 years ago, doesn’t work now. So what does work?

AIM: We live in a cashless society and it is very easy to get yourself into serious amounts of debt before you realise it. And if you get it wrong, it’s very hard to ever get out of it. Those who learn wise money habits early are on the track to financial success.

You will learn:
 - How to get the basics right in managing your money successfully.
 - Should you pay with cash or EFTPOS?
 - Wants and needs. Some simple money saving ideas.
 - How can you ever buy a house with student loans, car payments and credit card debt?
 - Good, bad and ugly debt! Why credit cards and hire purchase are money down the drain.
 - Why KiwiSaver really is worth the investment.

On day two students will play Robert Kiyosaki’s game ‘Cashflow 101.’

Delivered on site at Vision College, tutors will work with students to give them a taster of early childhood
study. Students will not only gather credits, but also gain important skills to assist them in any after school
work they have with children.
For those interested, we can offer a Level 3 programme also. Please contact us if you are interested.

Technology is an ever-growing industry with websites and apps helping our everyday life more than ever.  Students who attend the ‘Introduction to Web’ course will create an Instagram like profile page while learning the basic skills needed to create and manage a web page from scratch.

This course offers an introduction to establishing a band in the New Zealand music scene.

INTRODUCTION TO BAND MANAGEMENT
• A run down on the structure: co-ordination, organisation and importance of good management.
• How to get & arrange gigs: The importance of bookings, contacts and advertising of performances.
• The New Zealand Music Scene: How the NZ music scene has developed.

BAND REHEARSAL
Learn songs to develop your performance skills, confidence and competence in both individual & group performance, within a band setting. This will include:
• Arranging the song
• Effective rehearsals
• Band dynamics
• Improving your timing
• Working together

This course offers an introduction to the setup and disassembly of a small public address system in a Performing Arts situation and an introduction to stage lighting:
• Set up a small PA System.
• Learn about the components of a small PA system
• An introduction to the using a sound desk to mix sound for a performance setting.
• An introduction to the components of a lighting system.
• The different types of lights available.
• An introduction to using a lighting desk for live and pre-programmed lighting.

Looking for a career in uniform? The Armed Forces, Police, Fire Service, Corrections and Security industry all require a high level of fitness and an appreciation for key aspects of such careers.

This one-day course will include some physical challenges, team building exercises, explain what is required by the various uniformed career options and be a lot of fun.

TrainMe STAR Course

 

Knowing how to make good coffee is a foot-in-the-door to most holiday jobs now. This course covers the origins of coffee and how it is processed, along with types of coffee and what affects their flavour when made in cafes. The second half of the course is hands-on and you will learn how to make various types of coffee, such as Long Black, Cappuccino and Flat White.

This is run over two days and covers both theory and practical, including Health and Safety requirements, mixing, transporting and using fuel.  Learn how to maintain a chainsaw, a range of cutting techniques, what personal safety gear to use and ways to reduce the chance of kickback.

Engineering

Engineering

TrainMe STAR Course

 

Our engineering course allows students to spend day 1 working on small engines, learning how to perform basic servicing including oil and filter changes, finding and fixing faults, and sharpening and caring for hand tools. Day 2 will include the basic fundamentals of welding with a Mig welder along with health & safety components, followed by the opportunity to prepare and weld an item that they will be able to take home.
