To familiarise students with the industry standards in these Graphics programs. This course offers and introduction to basic concepts in creating and manipulating images using Photoshop and Desktop publishing using Corel Draw.

Create Computer Graphics - Using painting and drawing tools
Digitise Images - Editing the images using size, tone, contrast and brightness.

Police Careers

Vision STAR Course

 

To familiarise students with the Industry requirements, and educational pre-requisites of people entering into a career with the Police.  This course offers an introduction and basic overview of everyday Police work.  Please note: Completion of this introductory course does not qualify students for entry into the Police Force.

TOPICS COVERED
Recruiting - The process involved in becoming a Police recruit, and personal requirements in doing so.
Overview of the Structure of the Industry - Structure of the Police Force and related areas.
Police Roles in the Community - What the Police do in, and for the community. This involves visits by various sectors of the Police which may include;
• Recruitment
• Crime Scene Investigation

• Youth Education

Physical Fitness - An overview of the physical requirements for entry into the Police Force. We also attend the Krypton Factor course at Burnham, or another outdoor challenge activity. (Weather permitting).

To provide students with an introduction to the wonderful possibilities of programming.

We have two different options available:
• Game Development using Gamemaker
• Programming solutions using Visual Basic.net

 

TOPICS COVERED
Logic Structure - A logical design model is developed to realise a given brief to write a game/business solution. 
Testing Procedures - Testing procedures are explored to test output of game/business requirement against plan.
Coding - Code is created and documented to create the game/business solution.
Program Development - Each student has the opportunity to develop their own game/business solution using the procedures learnt.
Testing and Evaluation - Testing and evaluation procedures are followed to ensure outcome matches plan with each student being able to burn their game to a CD or DVD.

Story Boarding - Learn to visualise your song/topic via storyboard method.
Legal Obligations - Learn about consents for location shooting etc
Camera Functions - Learn about the functions of different cameras and the most suitable equipment for differing situations.
Record a performance - Record performances onto a camera and edit the results into a publishable DVD

Youth Leadership

To provide a basic understanding of the foundations of good youth work practice, as well as some practical experience.  This Course will help students develop Youth Work Skills, and is suitable for any student with a desire to do voluntary or paid youth work in the future. No skills needed. 

This course is perfect for those who are involved as peer leaders in their Youth groups or sports teams.

TOPICS COVERED

Leadership - An introduction to what leadership is and what makes a good leader.
Youth Development Strategy -A look at the YDS and how it affects all youth workers.
Ethics in Youth Work - An understanding of working safely and appropriately
Practical Work - Run a program for a group of young People, in a supported and fun environment.

There will be several visitors from well-established Youth worker groups including 24/7 and ICONZ sharing with the students the variety of work, the requirements and pathways to become a full-time Youth Worker either in a Church, Parachurch or Community situation.

The students will be involved in running a sports event at a local school with a group of students to give them practical knowledge of arranging and running such events.
