Unlike other one-year music diplomas, the Vision College diploma satisfies the requirements for the full first year of the Bachelor in Music.

The Diploma in Contemporary Music is a one-year programme that provides a unique opportunity for you to develop your passion for music in a Christian environment. It is a comprehensive year of study at Level 5 (equivalent to first year university) and is designed for those who want to develop effective musical knowledge and skills in a year or study the first year of a three-year Bachelor of Music.


This programme allows you to develop your musical, technical and performance skills. In addition, you will study theology and be involved in music teams.  All applicants need to be able to play an instrument or sing. You will receive one-on-one tuition that will take your skills to a new, highly-developed level.

The course has a balance of both performance and academic aspects and many of our graduates have been highly successful in their music-related careers.

In this one-year music course, as well as developing a sound understanding of music theory and knowledge, students choose either a Voice or Instrument elective. Students can choose either contemporary or classical disciplines. Ensemble classes and Music (Worship) teams focus on contemporary music.

The Diploma in Contemporary Music is a pre-requisite for the Diploma in Performance Music and the Bachelor of Music.

You must:

 - Be a minimum age of 17 years old* and have four years secondary education (NCEA 2) or be a mature student aged over 20.
 - Be interviewed and auditioned.• Students wishing to enrol will need to be at Grade 3 theory level, either ABRSM or Trinity.
 - International students for whom English is a second language must have an IELTS score of 6.0 (academic) with no individual band lower than 5.5, or a recognised equivalent test.
 - Domestic applicants whose first language is not English will be interviewed to assess their level of English competency and may be required to complete a placement indicator test.
 - *International students must be at least 18 years old.
