One Year National Certificate in Early Childhood Education (Level 3) (Hamilton & Christchurch)

This one year Early Childhood Education course is available to students who are 16-19 years old and do not have NCEA Level 2. During this Early Childhood Education course students will have the opportunity to attain three qualifications. Along with the National Certificate in Early Childhood Level 3, students can achieve Employment Skills Level 1, covering employment rights and responsibilities, personal wellness and how to plan for the future. NCEA Level 2 is also achieved through the embedding of literacy and numeracy standards. 

Throughout the year students will also have the wonderful opportunity to complete placements in Early Childhood Education centres. Students, are eligible to complete this course free under the government funded Youth Guarantee Scheme. Upon successful completion of the National Certificate in Early Childhood Education Level 3, students are invited to apply for the National Certificate in Early Childhood Education Level 5.




Six Month National Certificate in Early Childhood Education Level 3 (Auckland & Pukekohe)

The six month course is available to all students aged over 16 years at our Auckland Campus. In this six months, students have the opportunity to attain the qualification of National Certificate in Early Childhood Education Level 3 and will also have the wonderful opportunity to complete placements in Early Childhood Education Centres. Upon successful completion of the National Certificate in Early Childhood Education Level 3, students are invited to apply for the National Certificate in Early Childhood Education Level 5

Course Structure

Six month ECE programme - Full time (Auckland & Pukekohe)

You will develop a strong foundational grounding in essential Early Childhood knowledge. Plus throughout the year you will complete a minimum of 60 hours of placement time in Early Childhood Education Centres - giving you real hands-on experience in the workplace. Vision College offers small classes (up to 25 students), and supportive staff, which creates a personal and productive learning environment. 

One Year ECE programme - Full time (Hamilton & Christchurch)

You will develop a strong foundational grounding in essential Early Childhood knowledge. Plus throughout the year you will complete a minimum of 120 hours of placement time in Early Childhood Education Centres - giving you real hands-on experience in the workplace. Vision College offers small classes (up to 25 students), and supportive staff, which creates a personal and productive learning environment. Students will also learn life and employment skills as well as developing their literacy and numeracy.

Entry Requirements

Six month ECE Entry Requirements (Auckland & Pukekohe)

  • Be a minimum age of 16 years old* 
  • Attend an interview, which may include completing a written task
  • Supply two confidential referee reports
  • Complete a police vetting request**
  • Compete a Ministry of Justice check
  • Produce a statement of personal interest in the qualification
  • International students for whom English is a second language must also have an IELTS score of 5.5 with no individual band lower than 5.0, or a recognised equivalent test.

 

One year ECE Entry Requirements (Free for 16-19 year olds)

  • Pass an interview, which may include completing a written task
  • Complete a Ministry of Justice check
  • Supply two confidential referee reports
  • Students must be NZ Citizens, NZ Permanent Residents, or Australian Citizens.
  • Students must be aged 16 - 19 years old at the time of commencing their study.
  • Students must be prepared to study full time for 1 year.

 

Students receive a travel allowance for attending this course

Provisional Entry

Provisional Entry may be granted to domestic applicants who do not meet the criteria above, but present evidence of ability to succeed and are able to show they are well prepared to study the programme.

* International students must be at least 18 years old.

** International students are required to obtain a police certificate from their country of origin.
